Markets volatile; Sensex in red

The markets have pared its gains with the Sensex down 12 points at 17,619  and the Nifty trading flat at 5,266. In the broader markets, the midcap index is down 0.7% and the smallcap index shed 0.4% as compared to the Sensex which is down 0.1%

Metals continue to lead the losses along with IT, Capital Goods and Realty.

The markets have pared some of its earlier gains with the Sensex currently trading at 17,695 up 63 points.This is down 117 points from the day's high of 17,812 points.The Nifty too has shed its gains partially with the index at 5,301 up 38 points.

ICICI Bank and Tata Motors up 3% each, ITC, SBI, Jaiprakash Associates and Wipro gaining 1% - 2% are the top gainers among the Sensex stocks.

On the losers side are Hindalco, Reliance Infrastructure down 3% each, Sterlite, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hero Honda, Tata Power and L&T shedding  1% - 2%

Market breadth continues to be positive.1359 stocks have advanced while 1302 declined.
