Mentha oil gained 0.71% to Rs 1,341.30 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions, driven by a pick up in demand.

Tight supplies in the physical market due to less arrivals from the producing area of Chandousi in Uttar Pradesh also influenced mentha oil futures.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in August rose by Rs 9.40, or 0.71%, to Rs 1,341.30 per kg, with a business turnover of 475 lots.

The July contract gained Rs 4.30, or 0.28%, to Rs 1,314.50 per kg in 67 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in mentha oil futures to the pick up in demand from pharmaceutical units in the spot market against restricted arrivals from Chandousi in Uttar Pradesh.
