New margin norms set to dent volumes

The volume of shares traded has come down since April following changes in the computation method of securities transaction tax (STT), hitting arbitrageurs and jobbers badly.

Brokers dealing with institutional investors see volumes taking a further knock until practical issues in the margin system for institutions are sorted out.
