It was a day notable for the prices of shares of public sector undertakings (PSU). PSU stocks Wednesday pushed the Sensex up by 116 points, to end at a four-week high of 3427.39.
Shares of all three PSU stocks in the Sensex basket gained the maximum permissible 10 per cent limit (for Sensex stocks). HPCL ended the day at Rs 225.40, Bhel closed at 180.65 and MTNL at Rs 143.25.
Even the State Bank of India closed 10 per cent higher at Rs 238.45 on expectations that the government would soon initiate steps to further bring down its holding in the country
