Sensex at day's low in early trades

The Sensex has slipped and is now up 11 poinst at 17,245. The Nifty is flat at 5,121.

The Sensex today opened up with a marginal positive gap at 17,274 and surged to a high of 17,350. However, it has now slipped and is at the day's low at 17,256.

The Nifty is up 15 points at 5,133.

Metal stocks have gained in early trades this morning. Sterlite has added 2% to Rs 869. Hindalco and Tata Steel have moved up 1.4% each to Rs 137 and Rs 580, respectively.

Tata Motors and HDFC are up 1.5% each. SBI, BHEL, HDFC Bank and NTPC have advanced 1% each.

Meanwhile, Reliance Communications has shed 2.5% at Rs 226. Infosys, ITC, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma and Hindustan Unilever have slipped 1% each.
