Sensex below 10K, slips 555pts; Jaiprakash sheds 9%

The Sensex has slipped below the 10,000-mark, and is now down 555 points at 9,981.

Jaiprakash Associates has slumped over 9% to Rs 88. Sterlite has plunged 8.7% to Rs 255, and Hindalco has tumbled 7.5% to Rs 62.

Tata Motors has shed 7.7% at Rs 157. BHEL has crashed over 7% to Rs 1,404.

Reliance, Satyam and Tata Steel have slipped nearly 7% each to Rs 1,214, Rs 276 and Rs 200, respectively.

ONGC, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank have dropped 6.5% each to Rs 754, Rs 664 and Rs 441, respectively.

Tata Power and Larsen & Toubro have declined around 6% each to Rs 758 and Rs 868, respectively.

NTPC, DLF, Infosys, HDFC and SBI are the other major losers.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,376 stocks traded so far, 1,561 have declined, 755 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
