The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 129 points at 8,763 on the back of negative cues from the overseas markets. The soon tumbled to a low of 8,644, and is now down 198 points at 8,693.
Tata Steel has slumped 4% to Rs 165. ICICI Bank has tumbled nearly 4% to Rs 316.
HDFC Bank and Reliance Infrastructure have plunged 3.5% each to Rs 853 and Rs 473, respectively.
HDFC and ACC have shed 3% each at Rs 1,231 and Rs 524, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever and Sterlite have slipped nearly 3% each to Rs 247 and Rs 238, respectively.
Reliance and ONGC have declined 2.6% to Rs 1,232 and Rs 673, respectively.
Grasim, Reliance Communications, TCS and Bharti Airtel are down 2.3% each.
Ranbaxy has moved up 1.4% to Rs 164. Mahindra & Mahindra is up 1% at Rs 313.
