Sensex down 222pts; Hindalco, Sterlite shed 7%

The Sensex opened 131 points lower at 10,405, and is now down 222 points at 10,314.

Hindalco and Sterlite have slumped 7% each to Rs 62 and Rs 261, respectively. Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Assocaites have shed 4.7% each at Rs 204 and Rs 92, respectively.

Reliance and Reliance Infrastructure have tumbled 4% each to Rs 1,251 and Rs 598, respectively.

BHEL, DLF and ICICI Bank have slipped around 3.5% each to Rs 1,455, Rs 287 and Rs 455, respectively.

Tata Motors has declined 3% to Rs 165. Grasim, HDFC, Maruti and Infosys are the other major losers.

ITC and Wipro are up around 1.5% each at Rs 175 and Rs 273, respectively.
