The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 251 points at 10,284. The index is now down 334 points at 10,201.
Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance Communications and DLF have plunged over 6% each to Rs 91, Rs 204 and Rs 196, respectively.
Hindalco and Reliance Infrastructure have tumbled nearly 6% each to Rs 57 and Rs 578, respectively.
ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Sterlite have dropped around 5% each to Rs 355, Rs 1,008 and Rs 366, respectively.
Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra ONGC and HDFC are down around 4.5% each.
Sun Pharma, however, has gained 1.5% at Rs 1,085.
