The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 242 points at 12,284. The index is now down 399 points at 12,127.
Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite have slumped over 8% each to Rs 107 and Rs 364, respectively.
Tata Steel has plunged 5% to Rs 374. Tata Power and Bharti Airtel have tumbled 4.5% each to Rs 848 and Rs 724, respectively.
ICICI Bank, DLF and Reliance Communications have dropped around 4% each to Rs 483, Rs 323 and Rs 320, respectively.
HDFC, Reliance Infrastructure, Wipro and Larsen & Toubro have slipped nearly 4% each to Rs 2,002, Rs 713, Rs 328 and Rs 1,115, respectively.
