Sensex down 465pts; breadth fairly -ve

The Sensex is now down 465 points at 10,071.

Jaiprakash Associates has slumped 9% to Rs 88. Sterlite has plunged 7.7% to Rs 258, and Hindalco has tumbled 7% to Rs 62.

BHEL and Bharti Airtel have shed 6.5% each at Rs 1,414 and Rs 663, respectively.

Reliance, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank  have slipped around 6% each to Rs 1,220, Rs 201, Rs 159 and Rs 443, respectively.

HDFC, Larsen & Toubro, Satyam and Infossy have declined 5.5% each to Rs 1,675, Rs 873, Rs 281 and Rs 1,268, respectively.

Grasim and DLF are down 5% each at Rs 1,047 and Rs 283, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,253 stocks traded so far, 1,489 have declined, 696 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
