The Sensex after opening 131 points lower at 10,405, has extended losses and is now down 466 points at 10,070.
Sterlite has slumped 8.3% to Rs 256, and Hindalco has tumbled over 7% to Rs 62. Satyam has shed 6.5% at Rs 278.
Jaiprakash Associates and Reliance have plunged nearly 6% each to Rs 91 and Rs 1,227, respectively. BHEL has dropped 5.5% to Rs 1,431.
ICICI Bank, Infosys and Tata Motors have slipped around 5% each to Rs 447, Rs 1,271 and Rs 162, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro and Tata Steel have declined 4.5% each to Rs 881 and Rs 205, respectively.
Bharti Airtel, Grasim, DLF and HDFC are down over 4% each to Rs 679, Rs 1,058, Rs 286 and Rs 1,702, respectively.
Reliance Communications has advanced 1.7% to Rs 239.
