The Sensex is now down 86 points at 11,286.
The Sensex had opened almost unchanged at 11,371. The index touched a high of 11,376 and slipped into the red.
Bharti Airtel and NTPC have shed 2% each at Rs 728 and Rs 185, respectively.
Hindalco and Sterlite have declined 1.5% each to Rs 55 and Rs 410, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever, ITC, ONGC, Tata Power and Wipro have also dropped.
However, Jaiprakash Associates has gained 5% at Rs 137. Mahindra & Mahindra has advanced nearly 2% to Rs 483.
Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Infrastructure, Maruti Suzuki and SBI have added 1% each.
