The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 106 points at 9822. The index has touched a high of 9,838, the slipped to a low of 9,731. The index is now down 180 points at 9,748.
Jaiprakash Associates has slumped nearly 8% to Rs 81. Tata Motors has tumbled 5.5% to Rs 178, and Larsen & Toubro has plunged 4.5% to Rs 778.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Sterlite and Tata Steel have slipped over 4% each to Rs 294, Rs 269 and Rs 216, respectively.
HDFC has shed 3.5% at Rs 1,440. Reliance Infrastructure has dropped over 3% to Rs 582.
DLF has declined nearly 3% to Rs 307.
Reliance Communications and Ranbaxy, however, are up around 1% each at Rs 216 and Rs 224, respectively.
