Sensex ends down 59pts

The Sensex has finally ended (provisional) at 16,294, down 59 points.

The NSE Nifty has finally settled (provisional) at  4,830, down 16 points.

The Sensex has partially erased losses and is now at 16,322, down 30 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,833, down 13 points.

Maruti is the top loser so far, down 5% at Rs 1,409 and Tata Steel has shed 4% at Rs 481.

ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Communications and Hindalco continue to show weakness and are down 2-3% each.

Bharti Airtel and Wipro have gained 3% each at Rs 317 and Rs 622, respectively.

Tata Motors, Reliance and Larsen & Toubro are up over 2% each.

The market breadth remain negative, out of 2,712 shares traded, 1,675 have declined and 964 have advanced so far on the BSE.

The BSE Realty and the metal indices are deep in red, down around 6% each.
