The Sensex finally ended (provisional) at 17,434 - down 75 points.
The Nifty ended down 24 points at 5,228.

Markets have been showing volatile trends today. The Sensex after touching a high of 17,599 slipped 142 points to a low of 17,457. The index is now up 16 points at 17,526.
The Nifty is at 5,254 - up two points.
BSE PSU index continues to be the highest gainer among sectoral indices while IT has dropped 0.4% to 5,237.
Among the IT stocks HCL Technologies has dropped 2.5% to Rs 355. Infosys has dropped 1.5% to Rs 2,724.
However, MphasiS has gained 2.5% at Rs 593. Sensex stocks - Wipro and TCS have moved up considerable. Wipro is up 2.3% to Rs 384. TCS has jumped 1.6% to Rs 743.
Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors have added over 1% each to Rs 1,417 and Rs 772, respectively.
Jindal Steel, NTPC, Hindalco and HDFC have advanced marginally.
BSE market breadth is positive with more than 58% stocks to the advancing side.
