Sensex ends up 140pts

Sensex ends (provisional) up 145 points at 17,340. The Nifty ended (provisional) at 5,148 - up 40 points.

The Sensex has soared to a high of 17,350 and is now at 17,328, up 133 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 5,145, up 36 points.

SBI has advanced 4% to Rs 2,430. DLF has soared 3.5% to Rs 448. Jaipraksh Associates and ICICI Bank have increased 2.5% each to Rs 258 and Rs 958, respectively.

HDFC, Tata Power, Reliance and Reliance Infrastructure are up over 2% each.

Sterlite tumbled 5.5% to Rs 819. Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, Tata Steel, ONGC are down 1% each.

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,712 shares traded, 1,567 advanced and 1,058 declined on the BSE.

The BSE Metal and the banking indices have added over 1.5% each.

While the TECk and the IT indices are down 1.5% each.
