Sensex ends up 47pts

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a gain of 48 points at 17,147. The Nifty was up 17 points at 5,129.

The Sensex has soared to a high of 17,231 owing to continued buying in the power and the metal stocks. The index is now at 17,205, up 80 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,136, up 24 points.

Bharti Airtel has advanced 3% to Rs 341 and BHEL has added 2.5% at Rs 2,289. Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates are up 2% each at Rs 186 and Rs 233, respectively.

Hindalco, ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Infrastrcuture, Tata steel and DLF have advanced 1-2% each.

Hero Honda, Sun Pharma and Hindustan Unilever are down 1% each at Rs 1,681, Rs 1,463 and Rs 274, respectively.

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,850 shares traded, 1,716 have advanced and 1,039.

The capital goods index has soared 1.5% to 13,774 and the power index is up 1% at 3,038, respectively.
