Sensex extends losses; HDFC plunges 6%

The Sensex has slipped back to lower levels and is now down 243 points at 9,182.

DLF has slumped over 10% to Rs 159. Jaiprakash Associates has tumbled over 6% to Rs 72.

HDFC has plunged 5.7% to Rs 1,499. Tata Steel and Hindalco have shed 5% each at Rs 175 and Rs 47, respectively.

Wipro, Tata Motors, Reliance Infrastructure and ONGC have dropped around 4% each to Rs 221, Rs 144, Rs 559 and Rs 633, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank have declined around 3.5% each to Rs 611 and Rs 402, respectively.

Sterlite, SBI and TCS are down around 3% each at Rs 267, Rs 1,118 and Rs 497, respectively.

Maruti, however, is up 1% at Rs 577.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,168 stocks traded so far, 1,178 have declined, 898 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
