Sensex extends losses, now down over 300pts

Aggressive profit-taking in banking, realty and metal stocks continue to weigh on the market. The Sensex which opened with a negative gap of 146 points at 9,902, is now down 322 points at 9,727.

Jaiprakash Associates and ICICI Bank have slumped over 7% each to Rs 83 and Rs 358, respectively.

Sterlite and TCS have tumbled over 6% each to Rs 350 and Rs 539, respectively.

HDFC has plunged 5.7% to Rs 1,499. Hindalco and Reliance Communications have slipped over 5% each to Rs 52 and Rs 174, respectively.

DLF, Tata Steel and Reliance Infrastructure have also shed around 5% each at Rs 173, Rs 212 and Rs 539, respectively.

SBI has declined 4.8% to Rs 1,072. HDFC Bank is down 3.5% at Rs 961.

BHEL, Infosys, Wipro, Tata Motors and ITC are the other major losers.

Sun Pharma, however, has gained 1.7% at Rs 1,097.

The market breadth is negative - out of 1,974 stocks traded, 1,092 have declined, 797 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
