Sensex extends losses; Satyam plunges 10%

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 268 points at 9,661.

Jaiprakash Associates has slumped over 11% to Rs 78, and Satyam has plunged over 10% to Rs 146.

Tata Motors has tumbled 8% to Rs 173. ICICI Bank has plunged nearly 6% to Rs 420.

DLF has shed 5.5% at Rs 299. Sterlite has slipped nearly 5% to Rs 267.

Hindalco and Larsen & Toubro have declined 4.5% each to Rs 51 and Rs 778, respectively.

Ranbaxy is down 3.7% to Rs 214. Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC Bank are down 3.5% each at Rs 296 and Rs 985, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,405 stocks traded so far, 1,727 have declined, 609 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
