The Sensex has extended gains and is now up 175 points at 9,641. Earlier in the day the index opened 75 points higher on the back of positive global cues and has since firmed up on hopes of some positive news flow from today's interim Railway Budget.
Reliance Infrastrructure and Mahindra & Mahindra have surged around 4.5% each to Rs 575 and Rs 313, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro, Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Steel have rallied nearly 4% each to Rs 708, Rs 76 and Rs 192, respectively.
Reliance Communications, ACC, BHEL and Grasim have advanced over 3% each to Rs 178, Rs 567, Rs 1,457 and Rs 1,391, respectively.
SBI, ICICI Bank and Maruti have gained 3% each at Rs 1,194, Rs 434 and Rs 632, respectively.
Reliance has moved up 3.7% to Rs 1,388, and Sterlite has added 2.3% to Rs 275.
Sun Pharma, however, has slipped 1.5% to Rs 1,090.
