The Sensex opened on a subdued note following global markets. The index opened flat at 17,701and slipped almost immediately to the red to a low of 17,661. It is now down five points at 17,695.
The Nifty is flat at 5,282.
The US markets ended flat with the Dow at 10,574. The Nasdaq slipped marginally to 2,301.
Asian markets are also experiencing a lacklustre day. The Hang Seng is down 21 points at 22,395. The Nikkei is up at 10,738.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Power have dropped 1.3% to Rs 1,162 and Rs 1,455, respectively. Hero Honda is down 1% at Rs 1,677.
The other losers on the Sensex are NTPC, Grasim, Infosys and ICICI Bank.
On the other hand, Hindalco has continued yesterday's rally and is up 1.2% to Rs 173. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications are marginally up.
