The Sensex has opened at 17,388 tracking flat cues from the gloabl markets. The index is now at 17,403, up 43 points.
NTPC is the top gainer on the Sensex, up 2.5% at Rs 235. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure, ICICI Bank and Sterlite have advanced 1% each at Rs 326, Rs 1,116, Rs 874 and Rs 868, respectively.
ONGC, Tata Motors and Sun Pharma are the top losers on the Sensex, down 0.5% each at Rs 1,190, Rs 776 and Rs 157, respectively.
The market breadth is positive, out of 1,589 shares traded, 1,188 have advanced and 361 have declined so far on the Sensex.
