Sensex in red, down 257pts

The Sensex today opened 178 points down at 14,148. It quickly slipped to a low of 14,017.

The index has recovered partially and is now down 257 points at 14,069.

Sterlite has slumped 5% to Rs 566. ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have shed 4% each to Rs 696 and Rs 193, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure has slipped 3.5% to Rs 1,163. Hindalco and Tata Steel have dropped 3% each to Rs 82 and Rs 390, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro, DLF, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Infosys, Reliance Communications, ACC and ITC have declined 2% each.

Bharti Airtel, Reliance, Ranbaxy, Tata Power, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra are also down.

However, ONGC has gained 3% at Rs 1,027. Grasim has added 1.5% to Rs 2,176.

The Sensex has opened down 251 points at 14,075 today, following weak global cues.

The index is now down 250 points at 14,091.
