The Sensex opened 153 points lower at 9,434, and soon dipped to a low of 9,352. The index, thereafter, soon rebounded into the positive zone and touched a high of 9,630 - up 278 points from the day's low.
The Sensex, however, slipped back into red and is now down 292 points at 9,295.
TCS has soared 5% to Rs 529, and Infosys has surged nearly 4% to Rs 1,232.
Hindustan Unilever has gained 3% at Rs 259. HDFC and ITC have advanced over 2% each to Rs 1,664 and Rs 172, respectively.
Satyam has recovered partially from its day's low of Rs 11.50, but is still down a whopping 52% at Rs 19 on hefty volumes of over four crore shares so far on the BSE.
DLF has slumped 27.3% to Rs 171. Reliance Communications has tumbled 14.5% to Rs 177.
Reliance Infrastructure has shed 12% at Rs 492, and Larsen & Toubro has tanked 10.5% to Rs 695.
Jaiprakash Associates has slipped 9% to Rs 65, and Reliance has declined 8.5% to Rs 1,095.
Tata Motors and Tata Steel are down around 8% each at Rs 159 and Rs 216, respectively.
