Sensex soars to day's high

The Sensex has surged to a high of 16,179 - up 162 points. The index is now up 161 points at 16,177.

The Nifty is up 45 points at 4,827.

Sterlite has surged 5.5% to Rs 744. Reliance Infrastructure has gained 5% to Rs 1,217.

Tata Steel and Hindalco have added 3.5% each to Rs 458 and Rs 112, respectively. Reliance has moved up 3% to Rs 2,062.

TCS, Hero Honda, Jaiprakash Associates, Jaiprakash Associates, Larsen & Toubro, DLF and SBI have advanced 1-2% each.

However, Tata Power has dropped 1.2% to Rs 1,305. Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Communications and Tata Motors have dropped1% each.

The market breadth continues to be positive. out of 2,691 shares traded 1,650 have advanced while 967 have declined.
