Sensex steady; NTPC surges 6%

The Sensex is now up 182 points at 9,229.

NTPC has soared nearly 6% to Rs 177. Reliance and Reliance Communications have surged 5% each to Rs 1,203 and Rs 183, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Infrastructure have rallied 4.5% each to Rs 631 and Rs 526, respectively.

Sterlite has gained 3.5% at Rs 262. Tata Steel and Hindalco have advanced over 3% each to Rs 204 and Rs 50, respectively.

ONGC and BHEL have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 641 and Rs 1,388, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates and ICICI Bank are up 2.3% each to Rs 66 and Rs 418, respectively.

DLF has plunged nearly 3.6% to Rs 195. Grasim, TCS and Wipro are down around 1.5% each at Rs 1,274, Rs 503 and Rs 232, respectively.

Out of 2,353 stocks traded so far, 1,153 have advanced, 1,111 have declined and 89 are unchanged.
