The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 92 points at 8,956, and spurted to a high of 9,004 in opening trades. The index has now extended gains and is up 115 points at 9,016.
Jaiprakash Associates has surged 3.5% to Rs 77.
Tata Motors, Sterlite and ICICI Bank have rallied nearly 3% each to Rs 177, Rs 301 and Rs 333, respectively.
Reliance Communications, BHEL and Ranbaxy have moved up 1.7% each to Rs 162, Rs 1,436 and Rs 149, respectively.
DLF and Tata Steel have gained 2.5% each at Rs 163 and Rs 173, respectively.
Wipro and Reliance have advanced nearly 2% each to Rs 232 and Rs 1,325, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra, however, has slipped over 1.5% to Rs 371.
