The bourses switched on on a brittle note and deteriorated to close out at significantly lower levels.
The Bombay Stock Exchange sensex ended the day at 3153.06 (down 37.29 points) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty 50 wrapped up at 1017.10 (down 14.15 points).
The breadth was very negative as the advances to declines figures on the two exchanges combined were 434: 1705.

Traded volume on the BSE stood at Rs 998 crore, while on the NSE the figure was much higher at Rs 2,073 crore.
The capitalisation of the breadth was also negative as the numbers were Rs 77 crore: Rs 2,991 crore on the BSE and the NSE combined.
Traded volume plunged to abysmally low levels once again on Friday as the investors shied away from making commitments in the markets.
