Spices show mixed trend

In mixed pattern of trading, black pepper and jeera prices rose up to Rs 400 per quintal on the wholesale kirana market today on pick up in demand against restricted arrivals, while a few others such as turmeric, saunf (fennel seeds) and cardamom prices declined on lack of buying support.

Traders said buying by stockists on hopes of a rise in demand during marriage season amid fall in arrivals mainly pushed up black pepper and jeera prices.

Estimates of lower productions also influenced the prices of jeera and black pepper prices, they said.

Jeera common and best quality were remained in demand and added Rs 100 each to Rs 13,800-14,000 and Rs 15,400-15,900, respectively.

Black pepper common prices rose by Rs 400 to Rs 23,000-23,200 per quintal. On the other hand, turmeric dropped by Rs 500 to Rs 16,100-18,100 and saunf bold by Rs 200 to Rs 8,000-13,000 per quintal.

Cardamom small varieties like chitridar, colour robin, bold and extra-bold were also traded lower by Rs 20 each to Rs 1,130-1,210, Rs 1,180-1,200, Rs 1,210-1,220 and Rs 1,330-1,350 per kg, respectively.

Cloves too shed Rs 15 to Rs 330-390 per kg.
