Exports rise 18 per cent in April-November.
Tyre production continued to rise in November due to a sharp increase in automobile sales, especially of cars and two-wheelers. In November, the production increased 19 per cent to 567,667 tyres, from 476,398 tyres in the same month of 2009.
The cumulative production in the eight-month period (April-November) of the current financial year increased 26 per cent, according to the latest data of the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (Atma). Total production increased to 77.39 million tyres from 61.22 million tyres in the same period of the last financial year.
A whopping increase was recorded in segments like two-wheelers (scooter/moped), three-wheelers and passenger cars, the data showed. Two-wheeler and moped tyre production increased from 4.69 million to 7.9 million, a growth rate of 68 per cent.
Three-wheeler tyre production increased from 3.33 million to 4.67 million, a rise of 40 per cent. Passegner car tyre production increased to 16.9 million, up 36 per cent. In motorcycle and off-the-road segments, 24 per cent growth was recorded. All 11 segments, except truck, bus and LCV, saw double-digit growth during April-November.
Truck and bus tyres recorded only eight per cent growth at 10.39 million tyres as against 9.66 million during the same period of the last financial year. The LCV segment recorded the lowest growth rate of four per cent.
Exports of industrial tyres, jeep tyres, implement tyres and scooter tyres increased 18 per cent.
Negative growth was recorded in truck, bus, LCV and tractor tyres. Exports of truck and bus tyres declined 11 per cent, while in the LCV segment, the decline was five per cent.
The cumulative total exports rose 18 per cent to four million tyres as against 3.4 million tyres in April-November 2009-10.
