Kirana: The wholesale kirana market displayed a mixed trend in the national capital during the past week as select spices, led by turmeric, fell sharply on increased arrivals against subdued demand, while a few other moved up on seasonal demand.
Traders said increased arrivals from producing region against lack of buying support mainly pulled down select wholesale spices.
Expectations of higher production also put pressure on some spices, they added.
Pick up in demand on the back of ongoing marriage season further fuelled select spices to trade higher, traders added.
Turmeric suffered the most by losing Rs 1,100 to Rs 16,000-18,000 per quintal, while saunf bold declined by Rs 200 to Rs 8,000-13000 per quintal.
Mace red and yellow varieties eased to Rs 1,780-1,950 and Rs 1,650-1,850 against last close of Rs 1,800-1,950 each per kg.
Chirounji (new) lost Rs 30 to Rs 470-500 per kg.
Cardamom brown (Jhundiwali) and (Kanchicut) traded lower at Rs 1,040-1,050 and Rs 1,175-1,350 against last close of Rs 1,110-1,125 and Rs 1,210-1,360 per kg, respectively.
Cardamom small varities such as chitridar, colour robin, bold and extra bold too traded lower at Rs 1,130-1,210, Rs 1,180-1,200, Rs 1,210-1,220 and Rs 1,330-1,210 as compared with a previous levels of Rs 1,310-1,360, Rs 1,370-1,400, Rs 1,400-1,420 and Rs 1,500-1,520 per kg, respectively.
Cloves lost Rs 15 to Rs 330-390 per kg.
On the other hand, black pepper rose by Rs 23,000-23,200 from Rs 22,500-22,700 per quintal. Watermelon kernel gained Rs 25 to Rs 165 per kg.
Jeera common and dollar also saw demand and finished higher by Rs 600 each to Rs 14,000-14,200 and Rs 15,600-16,100 per quintal, respectively.
