250 mandis linked with e-agriculture market

In an endeavour to help farmers get a better price for their products, the Centre has integrated 250 mandis in ten states with the electronic national agriculture market (e-NAM) in the first phase.

While, addressing media in New Delhi, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh informed that the government has exceeded the target of linking 200 mandis.

He further said that in Uttar Pradesh as many as 67 mandis in have been brought under the e-NAM portal, followed by 44 in Telengana, 40 in Gujarat, 36 in Haryana and 20 in Madhya Pradesh.

Moving on, Singh added, that the government presently has given a nod to proposals of 14 states for integrating around 400 mandis under the portal.

"Currently, one lakh 53 thousand tons of agriculture produce amounting to Rs 421 crores has been transacted through e-NAM platform," he said.

"Over 160,000 farmers and over 46,000 traders have been enrolled under the scheme.

E-NAM is a pan India electronic portal for sale and purchase of agricultural produce which facilitates farmers get better prices of their produce.

The first phase of the e-NAM was launched on 14th of April earlier this year.

The Centre has aimed at targeting 585 markets to be integrated with e-NAM by March 2018.
