The second day of 10th convocation 2014 of Amity University was held at Amity Campus, Sector, 125, here wherein over 4,020 graduands from Amity School of Communication, Amity School of Fashion Technology, Amity Institute of Social Sciences, Amity School of Hospitality, Amity School of Languages, Amity Law School and other institutes received their degrees and diplomas.
During the day, over 215 meritorious graduands were honored with awards. 83 graduands received gold medals, 79 graduands received silver medals, while 36 were awarded bronze medals.
The convocation ceremony commenced with the procession comprising of trustees of the board, senior members of the management, head of the institutions, departmental heads and senior faculty members, who were led by the band of pipers.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, the Vice Chancellor of Amity University Uttar Pradesh, welcomed the august gathering and presented a brief report of the university. He congratulated the graduands and wished them luck in their future endeavors.
During the convocation, Shobhana Bhartia, chairperson and editorial director of Hindustan Times was conferred with the honorary doctorate in philosophy for her strategic vision and direction in pursuit of excellence and dedication to the humanity in general.
On the occasion, advocate Raian Karanjawala, Founder and Managing Partner Karanjawala and Company was conferred with the honorary doctorate in law (LLD) for his untiring efforts and immense contribution towards the development and maturing of legal systems which has enhanced the image of India globally.
Dr. Ratan Kumar Sinha, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, was conferred with the honorary doctorate in science for his commitment, determination and a lifelong devotion to science.
During the convocation, scientist R K Kotnala was conferred the honorary professorship in Amity School of Biotechnology.
During the second day of convocation, a virtual convocation was conducted for students from 28 countries during which 781 students were awarded with degrees, in addition to individual medals and awards.
During the third day of convocation, a total of 3,286 successfully qualified graduands of several programs will receive UG and PG degrees, diplomas, trophies and medals respectively.
Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and Mangu Singh, Managing Director of Delhi Metro, will be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees.
