Singer Aaliyah's biopic will explore the tragic singer's secret illegal teen marriage to controversial rapper R Kelly and will feature Disney star Zendaya in the lead role, according to reports.
The R and B pop star was tragically killed in 2001 in a Bahamas plane crash, when she was only 22-years-old.
Executive producer Debra Martin Chase told New York Post that Aaliyah's personal and professional relationship with R. Kelly will be explored with care in the film as they set out to depict her life with the utmost respect.
Chase said that above all else, it was their hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent.
The biopic will release in 2015.
