AAP's Rahul Mehra welcomes verdict in IPL fixing case

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Rahul Mehra on Tuesday welcomed the verdict of Justice R.M. Lodha-led committee in the Indian Premier League (IPL) fixing case, saying it is a great day for those who look upon cricket as a 'religion'.

"The Supreme Court verdict has sent across a good message. It is commendable how the judiciary fought against all odds to make the BCCI succumb to its pressure," Mehra, who is a lawyer by profession, told ANI here.

"It will give people confidence that the BCCI is not an 'untouchable' body, full of influential people who cannot go unpunished if charges have been framed against them. The Supreme Court has proved its power and so has the Supreme Court appointed committee. I am very happy. Being a lover of cricket, this is a great moment," he added.

In a sensational verdict, the three-member apex court appointed committee has found Chennai Super Kings (CSK) official Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals ( RR) co-owner Raj Kundra guilty, and imposed life suspensions on the duo.

The committee also sealed the fate of the two IPL franchises, CSK and RR, by banning them for two years from the league.
