Australia's health minister has reportedly condemned a lewd prize that was conferred upon Adelaide-trained Islamic State (IS) doctor Tareq Kamleh for being the most "promiscuous" intern at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Jack Snelling mocked the joke award by saying that he expected "better" form the next generation of doctors and medical professionals. He added that most South Australians would be shocked to know that medical professionals would award titles for promoting promiscuity, reported News.com.au.

Snelling also said that he will call upon the AMA (Australian Medical Association) and SASMOA (South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Association) to "unequivocally condemn this behavior" and bring these awards to an end.

The "Golden Speculum" award is presented by RAH interns to the colleague who slept with the most members of staff. It has been running for a decade and is given at an end-of- year interns' dinner.

A consolation prize titled, "Plastic Speculum," is awarded to the intern who tried the hardest to win the big award.

Dr. Kamleh, a paediatric doctor who has now joined the ranks of the IS, won the award in 2011.

A speculum is a medical instrument used to examine body orifices.
