Afghan CEO says Taliban should stop using children for their own goals

Afghanistan CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Monday reiterated his call to the Taliban to join the peace process, but also slammed the insurgen group for using child soldiers in their ongoing war against the government.

Addressing guests at a ceremony to mark the 27th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet Union troops from Afghanistan, Abdullah said that the government had a zero tolerance policy towards those who use children in their battles.

H e added that Taliban should stop using children for their own goals and let children live their childhood, reports TOLO News.

Speaking on the Soviet war in Afghanistan, which lasted for ten years from 1979 to 1989, Abdullah said, 'We still suffer from the aftermath of that defeat. There is still insecurity in the villages of our country.'

Abdullah said victory against the Russian Invasion of Afghanistan was a tremendous achievement but, the aftermath had not been good for the nation.

He went on to say that the defeat of the Soviet troops in Afghanistan 'inspired other nations in the region to become free and live in peace'.
