Pakistan T20 skipper Shahid Afridi has apologised to his countrymen after the side made an early exit from the ongoing World T20 in India.

Pakistan were heavily criticized by the fans after they failed to replicate their dominant win over Bangladesh as they went on to lose three consecutive matches against fierce rivals India, New Zealand and Australia to get themselves knocked out of the T20 format's pinnacle tournament.

Posting a video of him on his Facebook page, the 36-year-old begged forgiveness from the nation for not performing according to their standards, the Express Tribune reported.

The all-rounder further insisted that he had represented Pakistan for last 20 years and that he had always carried the emotions of the people of the country with him whenever he stepped into the field.

Afridi's comments came a day after head coach Waqar Younis apologised to the nation for the country's dismal show and offered to quit the job for the benefit of the team.

Afridi, who holds the record for taking most number of wickets in the history of T20 format with 97 scalps, is expected to make a decision about his future as a skipper very soon.
