The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has reinstated Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Uma Shankar Singh as a member of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly.
Singh was earlier disqualified by Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on the basis of a Lok Ayukta report, which had found him guilty of having used his position to secure government contracts.
Governor Naik had also sent the files to the Election Commission, which gave its nod for Singh's disqualification on December 31, 2014. The former had then issued formal disqualification orders.
