South African batsman Hashim Amla has welcomed the inclusion of former player Neil McKenzie as the new batting consultant.
Jubilant with the reports that McKenzie could join the team, the 32-year-old described the former as a highly respected player and said that he would definitely prove to be a valuable asset for the national set-up, Sport24 reported.
Amla added that McKenzie was an experienced player and his knowledge would add great value to the side.
Earlier, McKenzie revealed that Cricket South Africa (CSA) wants him to travel and work with the national side as and when required, including for the upcoming ICC World T20 in March.
CSA, however, insisted that nothing has been confirmed as yet and would hold talks with McKenzie once he returns from the United Arab Emirates.
The former opening batsman, who retired from all forms of cricket recently, is currently playing in the Masters Champions League in Dubai, which is aimed at giving retired players a chance to take the field again.
