The Indian Army on Friday confirmed that they have neutralized two terrorists of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit faction) or (NDFB (S) who had opened indiscriminate fire at Balajan Tinali near Kokrajhar town in Assam, leaving 13 civilians dead.

"An Army Patrol which was in the vicinity, immediately reacted and cordoned the area. The Army troops neutralised one of the terrorists on the spot," the Defence PRO's statement said.

It said that the swift action by the Army troops prevented indiscriminate killings of civilians in the crowded market place.

"Any delayed action by the Army would have resulted in extremely high casualties amongst the un-armed, innocent civilians," it added.

The Army has also launched a massive combing operation, pressing into service specialised troops, tracker dogs and other specialised equipment.

"The Army has been carrying out extensive area domination operations in the strife torn District of Kokrajhar, thus ensuring swift actions," it said.

The Defence Pro said the Army will continue its relentless operations against terrorists, who try to disrupt the peace of the area.

As per reports, this sudden incident of firing on people at a public place in broad daylight is first of its kind in the militancy-ravaged state.
