Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's bail plea has been rejected by the Supreme Court in connection with a rape case filed against him in Gujarat.

Asaram Bapu's lawyer Saurabh Ajay Gupta today said, "Today Asaram's case was presented before the SC. The court has adjourned the matter for August 19. A notice has been issued by the SC to the state government as well as to the counsel for the complainant today. Now, we will see what happens on 19 August. It's a great success for us that the matter is under the SC's consideration."

Gupta also said, "We argued that Asaram is innocent and the case is completely false. We have asked only for regular bail not interim bail.
