Police in Assam have confirmed the killing of two hardcore cadres of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit group) in the state's Kokrajhar District.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Bodoland Territorial Area (BTA), L. R. Bishnoi, was quoted by media, as saying that the encounter had taken place at Jaamduar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Gossaigaon police station.
He said Jaamduar is located at a tri-juncture of Assam, West Bengal and Bhutan.
On receiving information about the whereabouts of the insurgents, police launched an operation in which the two militants were killed in retaliatory fire, he said.
Police had also recovered two grenades and a pistol from the encounter site, he added.
