At an ASSOCHAM event today, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai announced the 'Ab Bus karen Jan Parivahan -Swasthya Jeevan' initiative, which will commence from India Gate to Red Fort on October 22 in the early hours time to avoid Ramleela rush.

Appreciating the initiative by ASSOCHAM, he also said that we need to work on the public transport, the government will come out with the solution but people have to change their mind set for public transport system. We can provide the best public transport to Delhi.

He further added that a fully integrated transport system in Delhi is to be brought so that people using public transport should conveniently get other transport for their last mile distance from station/ bus stop to their residence/ locality.

On the BRT issues, Transport Minister said that the centre has also issued the guidelines and a meeting is fixed with various banks. The technological solutions have come out but we are working on practical coordination and will come out with the solutions soon.

On the issues of ban on Uber, Ola Cabs, "It still continues to be in force in the national capital. We will not allow to run their taxis in Delhi at the cost of health and safety of citizens of Delhi. Uber and Ola have to bring all their taxis on CNG.

Also present at the event was Dr. Muktesh Chander (IPS), Special Commissioner (Traffic) Delhi Police who said that people should follow the traffic rules. Roads have to be properly constructed and maintained for pedestrians to avoid the accidents. To implement the roads safety in Delhi, nearly 45% are the pedestrians who died on the road accidents. To avoid the road accidents in Delhi, we need to have proper footpath for them, cross over bridges.

Lack of effective appraisal and assessment has resulted in entry of 'Fly by Night' operators and unorganized dealers / agents, some of whom don't even have a PAN/TIN Number and indulge in cash sales and issuance of false bills / certificates, production in residential area buildings leading to evasion of Excise, Sales Tax & Service Tax and flouting of Labour and factory laws. This arises to no audit trail leading back to operator in case of non operation of limiter, said Mr. Anand.
