Baba Ramdev demands life imprisonment for all corrupt persons

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has sought life imprisonment for all corrupt people in India.

Interacting with medai persons here, Baba Ramdev said: "I want that the property of corrupt should be confiscated. They should get life imprisonment if not death penalty so the looters of the country could be taught a lesson."

"The Nehru- Gandhi family has looted this country in 67 years more than Mughal rulers, British, kings and queens taken together in 1,000 years. It is not a mere allegations, I have got facts about it," he added.

Baba Ramdev and the Congress Party share an estranged relationship after police broke up a mass fast against graft by saffron-robed Guru in New Delhi in 2011.

Meanwhile, Baba Ramdev's anti-graft campaign is loosely aligned with a message by social activist Anna Hazare, who staged a hunger strike in 2011 that roused public ire against the government, though his popularity has waned.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sought to gain political momentum and boost the economy, had brought back pro-market reformer Palaniappan Chidambaram as finance minister, cheering markets but also raising questions over whether the government has the mandate to get the job done.
