The Janata Dal (United) on Sunday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for appointing BJP leader Ram Nath Kovind as Bihar's Governor without consulting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying it is unfortunate and against the constitutional spirit.
"The appointment of Governor in Bihar is very unfortunate and condemnable; it is against the constitutional spirit, that the state's Chief Minister gets the information about the Governor's appointment through the media," Tyagi told ANI here.
"If they could not appoint (the Governor) with his consent, they should have informed the Chief Minister over telephone as a courtesy, but the Central Government did not even do this formality," he added.
The Bihar Chief Minister had yesterday expressed his displeasure over the appointment of new Governor without his consultation, saying he got the information through the media.
The appointment of 69-year-old Kovind comes barely few months ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls due this year.
Meanwhile, Tyagi while commenting on Prime Minister's scheduled rally in Gaya, Bihar, said the BJP is making attempts to attack Bihar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Gaya later in the day.
As per reports, he will be accompanied by BJP president Amit Shah and other party leaders from Bihar.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the administration for the rally.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Bihar earlier on July 25 where he shared the stage with Nitish Kumar in Patna and addressed a rally in Muzaffarpur.
