The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday flayed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill passage, saying it was an attempt to prove his presence in the country since he has been on a holiday.
"Since he (Rahul Gandhi) was holidaying and now that he has come back, he wants to prove to the nation that 'Main bhi hoon naa', so his rhetoric goes on without any substance," BJP leader Sidarthnath Singh told ANI.
Singh further said that the Congress vice president's comment on the GST Bill shows that he is still in the rhetoric mood.
Gandhi had said yesterday that the Congress will support the Bill in the Rajya Sabha the day the government agrees to its conditions, saying 'it will take 15 minutes to pass the bill'.
"We don't want a GST where there is no cap on taxes," Gandhi said, in his interaction with management students at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.
The government has said it is building consensus on the GST bill and will try and pass it early in the budget session of Parliament that is expected to begin in the last week of February.
In the current bill brought in by the BJP-led NDA, the Congress wants a cap on taxes and removal of additional one per cent levy for producing states.
