The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday expressed its gladness over delivering on its promise of regularising unauthorised colonies in New Delhi, adding that the decision will provide relief for many residents in the national capital.
"As far as the regularisation of Delhi is concerned, the BJP has delivered on the promise that it had made," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.
"We are happy that respite has come to the people of the unauthorised colony of Delhi," he added.
Meanwhile, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit refused to give any credit to the Centre, alleging that the decision had already been taken by the Congress.
"The BJP said they will regularize unauthorized colonies but this deadline only shows work was already going on. The decision was taken by the Congress and it's a matter of pride for us that the Government wants to take our work ahead," she said.
Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet extended the cut-off date for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies in New Delhi from March 31, 2002, to June 1, 2014.
By this extension, 895 colonies and 60 lakh people in the city stand to benefit.
